Guy-Man After All

Everyone talks about Thomas Bangalter as the God-Head of the late 90's "french touch" scene. Daft Punk, Stardust, Roulé Records, and numerous remixes that seemed to define the genre. Many fail to remember the significant non-Daft Punk contribution to the scene made by the group's other half, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo in the founding of Crydamoure Records.

Guy-Man founded Crydamoure with Éric Chedeville in 1997 to release their own tracks under the guise of Le Knight Club as well as other new artists. For some reason,(as with Fiat Lux, home to the amazing Jess & Crabbe) even though the label put out many more releases than Roulé it still seemed to have less of an impact. Nevertheless, Crydamoure was home to many excellent (and in many cases debut) releases by Le Knight Club, Raw Man, Play Paul, Archigram, The Buffalo Bunch, The Eternals, Paul Johnson, and DJ Sneak.

The following are merely a handful of examples of the great material put out by this, (in my mind), under-appreciated label. YOU SHOULD OWN THESE RECORDS.

CRYDA 004 - 1998 - Le Knight Club - Intergalactik Disco
This is the B-side of this single, remixed by close Daft Punk pal DJ Sneak.

CRYDA 006 - 1999 - The Buffalo Bunch - T.I.T.T.S. / Music Box
This single was put out a year after Raw Man and Play Paul first united under the Buffalo Bunch name to release "Buffalo Club" on the Roulé sublabel, Scratché as it's first and only release.
The Buffalo Bunch - Take It To The Streets (YSI)

CRYDA 008 - 1999 - Raw Man - Lovers
This is the second track on the B-side of this single, as remixed by label heads Le Knight Club. Totally outshines the A-side.
Raw Man - Number Seven (Le Knight Club remix) (YSI)

CRYDA 010 - 2000 - Play Paul - Spaced Out/Holy Ghostz
The debut solo release by Play Paul (who also happens to be Guy-Man's brother) is a fine example of how beautiful the french touch filter sound can be. Play Paul would go on to release tracks on Gigolo and more recently on Kitsune.

CRYDA 011 - 2000 - The Eternals - Wrath Of Zeus
On this 12" I prefer the Dub version but I'm posting the original version because the vocal is something that just has to be heard. It's a bit too much for most people but I'm sure that very late at night people would eat it up on a dancefloor.

About people started to give Crydamoure attention. I LOVE these tracks. About time I dug those out of the crates again.
Thanks for reminding me of these excellent tracks.
